Not all causes are related to tobacco or smoking, either. In fact, some appear to be caused by exposure to toxins in the soil, air, or water that many people are unaware of. As a result, there are a number of environmental toxins that increase a person’s risk factors for this condition. These include lead, arsenic, cysts, chlorine, radon, cigarette smoke, and other chemicals that the US Environmental Protection Agency estimates are present in at least 25% of American homes.
